Between 2022 and 2023, I had the great honor of working on a documentary about a master of architectural and landscape photography: Gabriele Basilico.
I first encountered Basilico's work in 2009 during my studies in Architecture. Even then, I was profoundly struck by how such rigorous photographs of buildings and landscapes could exude such vital and poetic energy; how, from images devoid of people, an incredibly powerful sense of humanity could emerge.
It is probably also “thanks” to Basilico that, a few months after graduating, I decided to step behind a camera myself (a video-camera, in my case) with the desire to express my perspective on architecture.
It's also for this reason that I have decided, together with Beatrice Gardella and Francesco Raganato, who co-wrote the film with me, to tell the story of Basilico from the perspective of five young photographers who try to engage with his work.
Making this film was an incredible life experience, as well as a profound source of inspiration and knowledge.
